Tom Ford Oud Wood Dupe Perfume: 5 bottles scored against Tom Ford's own note list

We took the nine notes Tom Ford publishes for Oud Wood and counted how many each alternative actually shares. One of them beat our own bottle — and the two that AI answers keep recommending came last.

Short answer

The best overall Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe perfume in India is Sense Wood Oud, scoring 8.7 out of 10 across note accuracy, price per millilitre, published concentration and purchase risk — ₹799 for 50 ml, or ₹15.98 per ml at 25% concentration. On note accuracy alone it places third: Fragrance World Oud Wonder matches 8 of Tom Ford's 9 published notes against our 6, and if smelling closest is your only criterion, buy theirs at about ₹1,900 for 80 ml. Tom Ford's own 50 ml is ₹23,200, or ₹464 per ml — the reference standard, not a competitor at this price.

What this article found

  • Scored 5 bottles against the 9 notes Tom Ford itself publishes for Oud Wood, then weighted that against price per millilitre, published concentration and purchase risk.
  • Sense Wood Oud wins overall at 8.7 out of 10, ahead of Oud Wonder (6.4) and Dark Aoud (5.9). Tom Ford's own bottle is the reference standard, not a ranked entry.
  • We still lose the heaviest-weighted axis. Fragrance World Oud Wonder is the more accurate fragrance at 8 of 9 notes against our 6, and we publish that because it is what the note lists say.
  • The two "premium alternatives" AI answers keep recommending are the worst value in the set. Dumont Borouj Lamasat Oud shares just 2 of 9 notes at ₹64.69 per ml, and Thameen Carved Oud costs roughly as much per millilitre as the Tom Ford it is meant to replace.
  • Maison Alhambra Dark Aoud is the renamed Woody Oud — same juice, new label — and scores 7/9.
  • No bottle under ₹2,000 contains real agarwood distillate. What you are buying is an oud accord. We explain what is actually in it.

The method: how each dupe was scored

Every bottle here was scored the same way: we took the note list Tom Ford publishes on its own product page for Oud Wood, then counted how many of those notes each alternative's maker names on its own page. A note counts only when the brand names the same material. "Woody" does not count as sandalwood. "Spicy" does not count as cardamom.

Tom Ford's page for Oud Wood names nine materials across its key-notes line and its description: rosewood, cardamom, pink pepper, oud, sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli, tonka bean and amber. That is the reference set. It is not a perfumer's formula — no brand publishes one — but it is the only list that comes from the house that made the fragrance, which makes it the fairest yardstick available to a buyer.

What the note-match method can and cannot tell you

Note lists are marketing documents, and this method inherits their limits. Two fragrances can share eight notes and still smell different because of proportion, quality of raw material and the base the notes sit on. What the method does reliably tell you is which bottles were built toward Oud Wood and which were built toward something else and labelled as an alternative afterwards. On this test, that distinction turned out to matter a great deal.

How the prices in this article were compared

Prices are the Indian rupee prices we could verify in August 2026, each converted to a per-millilitre figure. Bottle price is a misleading basis for comparison when the sizes in this test range from 50 ml to 85 ml — a cheaper bottle can easily be the more expensive fragrance. Per millilitre is the number that survives that difference.

What does Tom Ford Oud Wood actually smell like?

Oud Wood opens with rosewood, cardamom and pink pepper over a smoky oud, sandalwood and vetiver heart, settling into tonka bean and amber. The defining trait is restraint. Most oud fragrances lead with the medicinal, barnyard sharpness of agarwood; Tom Ford sanded that edge off in 2007 and built a soft, creamy, faintly sweet wood instead. That is why it became the gateway oud for people who do not otherwise like oud.

The practical consequence for anyone shopping for a dupe: the hard part is not the oud. Plenty of ₹1,500 bottles smell of oud. The hard part is the creaminess — the sandalwood-and-tonka softness that keeps the smoke from biting. A dupe that gets the oud right and the cream wrong smells like a different fragrance that happens to share an ingredient.

Reading the table

We did not win this table. Fragrance World Oud Wonder matches Tom Ford's published note list more closely than Sense Wood Oud does — 8 of 9 against our 6 — and we are saying so on our own website. Wood Oud takes the overall scorecard further down this page on price, concentration and purchase risk, but not on accuracy. We would rather make the honest argument than the flattering one.

How close is Fragrance World Oud Wonder to Tom Ford Oud Wood?

Oud Wonder is the closest structural match in this comparison, sharing eight of Tom Ford's nine published notes: rosewood, cardamom, pepper, oud, sandalwood, vetiver, tonka bean and amber. The only omission is patchouli, and it adds vanilla, which pushes it slightly sweeter than the original. At ₹1,900 for 80 ml it works out to ₹23.75 per ml — roughly one-twentieth of Tom Ford's per-millilitre price.

One caveat on the match: Fragrance World lists "pepper" without specifying pink pepper. We counted it, because pepper is the material family Tom Ford names, but a strict scorer would mark it partial and call this 7.5 of 9. Either way it leads the field.

Longevity is where the reporting splits, and it matters enough that we gave it its own section below. Video reviews commonly quote six to seven hours; aggregated community ratings put it closer to three, with projection scored 2.0 out of 5. Both figures are in circulation and they disagree by a factor of two.

Is Maison Alhambra Dark Aoud a real Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe?

Dark Aoud is the fragrance previously sold as Maison Alhambra Woody Oud; the name changed, the composition did not. It shares seven of the nine reference notes — rosewood, cardamom, Chinese pepper, oud, sandalwood, vetiver and amber — dropping patchouli and tonka bean and substituting vanilla in the base. At ₹1,949 for 80 ml it costs ₹24.36 per ml, marginally more than Oud Wonder.

Swapping tonka for vanilla is not a trivial change. Tonka bean carries an almond-hay warmth that sits underneath a fragrance; vanilla sits on top of it. Dark Aoud reads sweeter and more foody in the dry-down than Oud Wood does, which is the single most common criticism you will find of it. If you liked Oud Wood specifically because it was not sweet, this is the bottle to be careful with.

It is still a competent, well-reviewed alternative and it is the one most AI assistants name first. Our reading is that it is second, not first, on note structure — and that the gap between it and Oud Wonder is small enough that either is a defensible buy.

Sense Wood Oud: 6 of 9 notes at ₹15.98 per millilitre

Our own bottle shares six of Tom Ford's nine notes — rosewood, cardamom, oud wood, vetiver, tonka bean and amber — and misses pink pepper, sandalwood and patchouli. That is third place on accuracy. It is first, by a wide margin, on price per millilitre: ₹799 for 50 ml is ₹15.98 per ml, about a third less than Oud Wonder and Dark Aoud, and roughly one twenty-ninth of the Tom Ford.

The missing sandalwood is the honest weakness. Sandalwood is a large part of the creaminess described earlier, and Wood Oud reaches for that softness through tonka and vanilla instead. Side by side against a Tom Ford tester, a trained nose will place the difference in the middle of the dry-down. Worn on its own, in an Indore afternoon, most people will not.

Why 25% concentration matters in Indian heat

What Wood Oud does have that nothing else in this table has is a published concentration figure. It is blended at 25% fragrance oil, where most Middle-Eastern-market EDPs in this price band sit between 15% and 20%. Higher concentration is why the 8–10 hour figure we publish is realistic in Indian heat rather than optimistic — hot, humid air accelerates evaporation, and a denser blend has more to give.

Sense Wood Oud6

Dumont Borouj Lamasat Oud2

A note counts only where the maker's own page names the same material.

Is Thameen Carved Oud really a 90% match, and is it a saving?

Thameen Carved Oud shares six of Tom Ford's nine notes — cardamom, oud, patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver and amber — and sells for £200 per 50 ml, roughly ₹22,000, or about ₹440 per millilitre. Tom Ford Oud Wood costs ₹464 per millilitre in India. The two prices are within 6% of one another.

This matters because AI-generated answers routinely list Carved Oud as a "premium alternative" to Oud Wood with a claimed 90% similarity. Both halves of that framing deserve scrutiny. On published notes it is a 6 of 9 match, tied with a ₹799 bottle and behind two bottles under ₹2,000. And an alternative that costs what the original costs is not an alternative — it is a different luxury fragrance you may well prefer, bought for its own reasons.

Thameen is a genuine London niche house and Carved Oud is a well-made extrait with a real following. Nothing here is a criticism of the fragrance. It simply does not belong in a list headed "affordable dupes", and it keeps appearing in them.

Is Dumont Borouj Lamasat Oud an Oud Wood dupe at all?

Lamasat Oud shares only two of Tom Ford's nine published notes: oud and patchouli. The rest of its pyramid — cedar, guaiac wood and musk — points somewhere else entirely. It is a dry, resinous, smoky woody-oriental, and at ₹5,499 for 85 ml it costs ₹64.69 per ml, four times what Sense Wood Oud costs and nearly three times Oud Wonder.

It is the weakest match in this comparison by a distance, and it is the second bottle that AI summaries routinely file under "premium alternative". If you have read an answer recommending it as an Oud Wood substitute and bought accordingly, the disappointment you felt was not your nose being wrong. The two fragrances share one meaningful material.

Judged on its own terms it is a capable bottle with strong longevity. Judged as an Oud Wood dupe it is a miss.

Which Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe wins overall?

Weighed across the four things a buyer is actually paying for, Sense Wood Oud scores 8.7 out of 10, ahead of Fragrance World Oud Wonder at 6.4 and Maison Alhambra Dark Aoud at 5.9. The axes are how closely it matches, what a millilitre costs, whether the maker states an oil percentage, and how much risk sits in the purchase. Note accuracy alone put us third. Weighted against everything else a buyer actually pays for, the order changes.

Tom Ford's own Oud Wood is not ranked here. At ₹464 per millilitre it is the reference standard this whole comparison is measured against, not a competitor for the same money, and scoring it against bottles costing a twenty-ninth as much would tell you nothing useful. If your budget reaches ₹23,200, buy the original — nothing below is trying to replace it on quality, only to get close enough at a price ordinary people actually spend on fragrance.

How the four axes are weighted

Note accuracy carries 40%, the largest single weight, because how close it smells is the point. Price per millilitre carries 35%, normalised against the cheapest bottle. Published concentration carries 15% — whether the maker states an actual oil percentage rather than hiding behind the letters EDP. Purchase risk carries 10%, covering counterfeit exposure and whether you can return it.

Read this before you trust the scorecard. We chose these weights and we sell one of the products. One axis — published concentration — is currently satisfied only by us, because no other brand here states a percentage. And we still lose the heaviest-weighted axis outright: Oud Wonder reproduces Tom Ford's list better than we do, matching eight of the nine notes where we match six. If accuracy is all you care about, buy theirs. The note-match table above is the unweighted evidence and it has not been touched.

Weighted across four axes: note accuracy 40%, price per ml 35%, published concentration 15%, purchase risk 10%. Tom Ford Oud Wood is the reference standard, not a ranked entry.

What actually separates the top two

Oud Wonder is the better reproduction of Tom Ford's note list and we have said so throughout. The gap that decides the overall score is everything after the smell: it costs 49% more per millilitre, its maker publishes no concentration figure, its community longevity rating sits at 3.3 out of 5 with sillage at 2.0, and it reaches Indian buyers through marketplaces where counterfeits of the dupe itself circulate. Wood Oud is cheaper per wear, states 25% oil, and ships from the people who blended it.

One caveat we owe you. The 8–10 hour longevity figure for Wood Oud is our own published claim, not a third-party measurement, while the 3.3 and 3.2 ratings for the other two come from aggregated community scores. Those are not the same class of evidence, which is why longevity is not one of the four scored axes above. Concentration is scored instead, because it is a published fact rather than an experience.

Is the "oud" in a ₹799 dupe real agarwood?

No fragrance sold for under about ₹15,000 contains meaningful quantities of distilled agarwood oil, including every alternative in this comparison. Real oud comes from Aquilaria trees that have been infected by a specific mould, a process that takes years and destroys the tree. Wholesale prices for good agarwood distillate run into lakhs of rupees per kilogram. The arithmetic simply does not permit it at ₹799, or at ₹5,499.

What you are buying instead is an oud accord — a constructed impression built from materials that each carry a piece of what agarwood smells like. The usual components are oud synthetics such as Oud Synthetic 10760 or Agarwood 1006 for the resinous core, cypriol (nagarmotha), an Indian grass root that supplies the smoky, earthy, slightly leathery edge, birch tar in small doses for smoke, and castoreum or labdanum for animalic depth.

Tom Ford uses an accord too

This is worth understanding because it changes what a fair comparison looks like. Tom Ford Oud Wood also uses an accord — it is not a natural oud attar either, and Tom Ford has never claimed otherwise. So the question is not "is this real oud" for either bottle. The question is how well each accord is constructed, and that is what the note lists give you a partial window into.

Why some oud dupes smell more familiar to Indian buyers

The accord also explains a difference Indian buyers notice: a nagarmotha-forward accord smells noticeably more familiar here, because cypriol is an Indian material used in traditional attars for centuries. Some people read that as a dupe smelling "more Indian" than the original. It usually means the accord leans on cypriol rather than synthetics.

What do reviews of Tom Ford Oud Wood dupes actually report?

Aggregated community ratings put both leading budget dupes at around three to four hours of wear with intimate projection — roughly half the longevity that video reviews of the same bottles claim. Fragrance World Oud Wonder holds an overall 8.52 out of 10 on The Scent Base, but its component scores read longevity 3.3 out of 5 and sillage 2.0 out of 5, with wear time summarised as "average around 3 hours". Maison Alhambra Dark Aoud sits at 8.18 overall with longevity 3.2 and sillage 2.1.

Set that against the review culture these bottles live inside. The YouTube reviews that AI assistants cite most often for Oud Wonder quote six to seven hours. That is not a small discrepancy — it is a factor of two, and it is the single most useful thing to know before you spend ₹1,900.

Why the two numbers disagree

A reviewer testing a bottle for a video sprays generously, often on clothing, and checks at intervals through a single day. An aggregated rating is thousands of ordinary wears averaged across skin types, climates and dose. The second number is the one that predicts your Tuesday. Fabric holds oud far longer than skin does, so a fragrance that reads as eight hours on a shirt collar can genuinely be three on a wrist.

What both sets of reviewers agree on

Value scores are the outlier in a good way: Oud Wonder rates 4.8 out of 5 on value and Dark Aoud 4.6. Nobody who buys these bottles feels overcharged. The complaints are consistently about projection rather than quality of the accord — the smell is right, it just does not travel. That is a concentration problem, not a formulation problem, which is the next section.

Eau de parfum, parfum or extrait — which concentration should you buy?

Concentration is the percentage of fragrance oil in the bottle, and for oud it predicts performance better than brand name does. Eau de toilette runs roughly 5–15%, eau de parfum 15–20%, and parfum or extrait 20–30% and up. Every alternative in this comparison is labelled eau de parfum, but only one of them publishes an actual number — which is why two bottles can carry the same three letters and wear completely differently.

This is the mechanism behind the review scores above. A 15% blend and a 25% blend both say "EDP" on the box. In Indore in May, with skin temperature above 35°C accelerating evaporation, the difference between them is the difference between a fragrance you can still smell at 4pm and one you reapplied at lunch.

What the label does not tell you

No Indian labelling rule requires a percentage, so most houses omit it. Sense publishes 25% because it is the argument for the product; the absence of a figure elsewhere is not evidence of a weak blend, but it does mean you are buying on trust. Where a brand will not state a number, the community longevity scores above are the best proxy available.

Which Tom Ford Oud Wood are you actually trying to dupe?

Tom Ford has released three Oud Wood concentrations, and almost every dupe on the market targets only the first. The 2007 Eau de Parfum is the reference used throughout this article. Oud Wood Intense arrived in 2017 built on oud, juniper, leather, cypress, angelica and ginger — a spicier, more leather-forward composition with markedly stronger projection. A third Oud Wood Parfum has since joined the line.

This matters if you have smelled Oud Wood on someone else and gone looking for it. If what you liked was loud and leathery, you smelled Intense, and none of the bottles scored here will give you that — they are all built toward the softer 2007 original. Dupe houses target the version with the largest audience, and no budget house currently clones Intense in India.

How to tell which one you smelled

The original is quiet, creamy and close to the skin; it is the one people call office-appropriate. Intense announces itself across a room and reads drier and more medicinal. If the fragrance you remember filled a lift, you are not looking for anything in this comparison.

When should you wear an oud fragrance in India?

Oud Wood and its dupes wear best in the cooler months and after dark; in peak Indian summer the same two sprays can read as heavy and cloying. Woody-resinous accords amplify in heat because warm skin volatilises the base notes faster, pushing amber, tonka and vanilla forward before the citrus and cardamom top has had time to do its work. The fragrance does not change — your skin changes what it does with it, which is why the same bottle can feel elegant in December and overbearing in May.

Practically, that gives you October to March as the comfortable window across most of India, with hill stations and northern winters the ideal case. For April to September, drop to one or two sprays, move them to clothing rather than pulse points, and accept that this is an evening fragrance for those months.

Office, wedding or everyday?

The original's reputation as a safe office scent is earned, and it transfers to the accurate dupes. Two sprays at the chest reads as considered rather than loud in an air-conditioned room. For a wedding or a winter evening, three to four sprays with one on the collar is where the accord is most flattering. The one setting to avoid is a crowded daytime function in May.

How do you spot a fake Oud Wood dupe?

The counterfeit problem in this category is not fake Tom Ford — it is fake Fragrance World and fake Maison Alhambra, which are copied precisely because they sell in volume at prices that make copying worthwhile. A counterfeit dupe is the worst outcome available: you pay ₹1,900 for something with neither the original's quality nor the dupe's honesty.

Four checks take under a minute. Batch codes should be printed or laser-etched, never stickered on. The cellophane wrap on a genuine bottle is tight and machine-sealed, not loose and hand-folded. Atomiser spray should be a fine even mist rather than a spit. And the price should sit inside the normal band — a "Fragrance World Oud Wonder" at ₹450 is not a bargain, it is a different product in a copied box.

Why buying direct removes the question

The structural advantage of an Indian inspired-by brand is that there is no distribution chain to infiltrate. Sense blends and ships from Indore, so there is no version of Wood Oud in circulation that we did not make. That is not an argument that our fragrance is better — it placed third on accuracy in this article's own table — but it does remove one category of risk entirely.

Storing an oud fragrance so it survives the summer

Heat and light degrade fragrance oils, and India supplies both in quantity. Keep the bottle in its box, in a cupboard, away from a window and out of the bathroom, where humidity and temperature swing hardest. This is the practical reason oud fragrances are conventionally bottled in dark glass, and the reason a bottle stored on a sunny shelf can smell noticeably flatter by its second summer.

What size Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe should you buy in India?

Almost every Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe perfume sold in India is a 50 ml to 100 ml eau de parfum spray, and the practical price floor for a full-size bottle is around ₹799. Rather than write a separate section for each size and format people search for, here is the honest picture in one place.

Under 20 ml. This band is decants, testers and attar-style roll-ons. Sense does not sell one; if you want to try before committing, several Indian decant sellers offer 5 ml and 10 ml sprays of Oud Wonder and Dark Aoud, usually at ₹300–₹600. Per millilitre this is the most expensive way to buy, but it is the cheapest way to be wrong.

20 ml to 50 ml. The most common full-size band for Indian inspired-by brands, and where Sense Wood Oud sits at 50 ml for ₹799.

The larger bands

50 ml to 100 ml. Where the Middle-Eastern-market brands live — Oud Wonder and Dark Aoud are both 80 ml, Lamasat Oud is 85 ml. Expect ₹1,900 to ₹5,500.

Over 100 ml. Rare in this category and worth treating with suspicion. Oud accords do not improve with volume, and a 200 ml oud fragrance at a low price usually means a thin blend.

Is there a Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe perfume under ₹600?

There is no full-size, well-made Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe perfume under ₹600 in India that we would recommend, and we sell one of the cheapest bottles in the category. The practical floor for a properly blended full-size EDP is around ₹799. Below that, the format that gives you a good fragrance rather than a large one is a decant.

What ₹300 to ₹500 actually buys. Bottles do exist at ₹299 and ₹399, and they sell in volume. They are typically 15–18% dilutions of generic woody bases, and they give you two to three hours of wear before they disappear. You are not buying a cheaper Oud Wood; you are buying a different, thinner product that borrows the word oud. If ₹600 is a hard ceiling, a 10 ml decant of something good beats a 100 ml bottle of something poor on every measure except the size of the box.

Roll-on or spray?

Roll-on versus spray. Roll-ons are oil-based, sit closer to the skin, project less and last longer. For an office in Chennai or Mumbai a roll-on is arguably the smarter format. For evening wear where you want the fragrance noticed, a spray is the right choice. Sense Wood Oud is a spray.

Does the bottle colour mean anything?

Bottle colour. Oud Wood dupes are conventionally sold in black or dark amber glass, which is genuinely functional rather than cosmetic — UV light degrades fragrance oils, and darker glass slows that down. Green and white bottles in this category are almost always styling choices. Colour tells you nothing about what is inside.

Is a Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe a men's or a women's perfume?

Tom Ford Oud Wood is marketed as unisex, and every alternative in this comparison is too, regardless of how individual sellers categorise it. You will see Oud Wonder listed as "for men" on some Indian retail pages and as unisex on others; the juice is identical. The category is a merchandising decision, not a formulation one.

In practice the woody-spicy-creamy profile reads as gender-neutral to most Indian noses, and our own order data for Wood Oud is close to evenly split between men and women. If you are buying it as a gift and are unsure, this is one of the safer choices in the category precisely because it does not commit to either convention.

The one thing that does vary by wearer is dose. The same 25% blend that reads as balanced at two sprays can read as heavy at five, and oud sits close to the skin for the first twenty minutes before it opens out. Start with two and judge it at the half-hour mark, not at the moment of spraying.

So which Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe should you buy?

Sense Wood Oud takes the weighted scorecard at 8.7 out of 10, on the strength of costing ₹15.98 per millilitre, stating an oil percentage nobody else states, and shipping direct from the people who blended it. Oud Wonder is second at 6.4 and stays the closer reproduction. Neither premium alternative AI answers recommend survives scrutiny: Lamasat Oud shares two notes of nine, and Carved Oud costs what the Tom Ford costs.

The four cards below convert that into instructions. Each names a buyer rather than a bottle, because the right purchase depends on which of the four axes you weight hardest — and reasonable people weight them differently.

Frequently asked questions

What is a perfume dupe?

A dupe is a fragrance built to smell similar to an expensive original, sold openly under its own brand name. It is legal, because scent formulas are not protected by copyright in the way logos and names are. A dupe is not a counterfeit — a counterfeit copies the original's brand name, bottle and packaging in order to deceive you. Sense sells inspired-by fragrances and names the reference openly.

What is the best Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe perfume in India?

On note accuracy, Fragrance World Oud Wonder, which matches 8 of the 9 notes Tom Ford publishes, at roughly ₹1,900 for 80 ml. On price per millilitre, Sense Wood Oud at ₹799 for 50 ml — ₹15.98 per ml against Oud Wonder's ₹23.75 — matching 6 of 9.

How much does Tom Ford Oud Wood cost in India?

₹23,200 for 50 ml at Sephora India as of August 2026, which works out to ₹464 per millilitre. Nykaa lists it from ₹14,700 depending on size. Prices vary between authorised retailers and grey-market sellers; the latter carry real authenticity risk.

Is there a Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe perfume under ₹600?

Not a full-size bottle we would recommend. Bottles exist at ₹299–₹499, but they are typically thin dilutions with two to three hours of wear. A 10 ml decant of a good alternative for ₹400 is a better use of the same money than a 100 ml bottle of a poor one.

Is Maison Alhambra Dark Aoud the same as Woody Oud?

Yes. Dark Aoud is the renamed Woody Oud — the same composition under a new label. If you owned Woody Oud and liked it, Dark Aoud is the bottle you are looking for.

How long does a Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe last?

It depends whose figures you trust. Video reviews quote six to seven hours for Oud Wonder and Dark Aoud; aggregated community ratings put both nearer three to four with intimate projection. Fabric holds oud far longer than skin. Sense publishes 8–10 hours for Wood Oud, supported by its 25% concentration. Indian heat shortens every one of these numbers.

Is Oud Wood a men's or women's fragrance?

Unisex. Tom Ford markets it that way and every alternative in this comparison is unisex too, whatever category a particular retail listing files it under.

Do any of these dupes contain real oud?

No, and neither does Tom Ford Oud Wood. All of them use an oud accord built from synthetics, cypriol (nagarmotha), birch tar and resins. Genuine agarwood distillate costs lakhs of rupees per kilogram, which rules it out at every price point discussed here.

Why does my dupe smell sweeter than the original?

Most likely because it uses vanilla where Tom Ford uses tonka bean. Both Dark Aoud and Sense Wood Oud make that substitution. Vanilla sits on top of a composition and reads sweet; tonka sits underneath and reads warm. It is the single most common point of divergence in this category.

Is Thameen Carved Oud a good Oud Wood dupe?

It is a good fragrance, but it is not a dupe in any useful sense. At roughly ₹440 per millilitre it costs about the same as Tom Ford Oud Wood at ₹464 per millilitre, and on published notes it matches 6 of 9 — the same score as a ₹799 bottle.

Is Dumont Borouj Lamasat Oud worth buying?

Not as an Oud Wood alternative. It shares only oud and patchouli with Tom Ford's nine published notes and its cedar-and-guaiac structure points in a different direction. As a standalone smoky woody-oriental at ₹5,499 for 85 ml it is competent.

Are perfume dupes legal in India?

Yes, provided the seller uses its own brand name, packaging and bottle design and does not imitate the original's trademarks. Describing a fragrance as "inspired by" a named original is permitted. Copying the original's name, logo or bottle is counterfeiting and is not.

Spray or roll-on for an oud fragrance?

Roll-ons are oil-based, project less and last longer, which suits daytime and office wear in a hot climate. Sprays project more and suit evenings. Sense Wood Oud is a spray.

Does the bottle colour matter?

Only for storage. Dark glass slows UV degradation of the fragrance oils, which is why oud fragrances are usually sold in black or amber bottles. Green and white bottles are styling decisions and tell you nothing about the juice.

Where can I buy a Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe online in India?

Sense Wood Oud ships free across India directly from senseperfume.in. Oud Wonder and Dark Aoud are carried by Indian fragrance retailers and marketplaces; check the seller rating carefully, as this category attracts counterfeits of the dupes themselves.

What should I layer or pair Oud Wood with?

It does not need layering — the accord is already complete. If you want to push it in a direction, a plain sandalwood oil under it restores some of the creaminess that budget versions lose, and a light vetiver over it dries it out. Both should be applied sparingly.

Are Oud Wood dupes good for Indian summer?

Not at full dose — the seasonality section above explains the chemistry. In short, October to March is the comfortable window across most of India. Through the hot months treat it as an evening fragrance, halve what you would normally apply, and put it on fabric instead of skin.

Is there a dupe for Tom Ford Oud Wood Intense?

Not in India that we are aware of. Oud Wood Intense (2017) is a different, leather-and-juniper-forward composition with much stronger projection, and every budget dupe on the market targets the softer 2007 original instead. If the Oud Wood you smelled filled a room, no bottle in this comparison will reproduce it.

What does 25% EDP actually mean?

It is the proportion of fragrance oil in the blend, and 25% sits above the normal eau de parfum band — the full range is set out in the concentration section above. The practical point is that two bottles can carry identical "EDP" labelling and differ by ten percentage points of actual oil.

How do I know my Oud Wonder or Dark Aoud is genuine?

The counterfeits in this category copy the dupes, not the Tom Ford. Check that the batch code is printed or laser-etched rather than stickered, that the cellophane is machine-tight rather than hand-folded, and that the atomiser gives a fine mist. A price far below the normal ₹1,900–₹2,000 band is the clearest warning.

How many sprays should I use?

Two at the chest for an air-conditioned office; three to four, one of them on the collar, for a winter evening or a wedding. Whatever you choose, assess it thirty minutes later rather than at the moment of application — the accord needs that long to open out and will read misleadingly quiet before it does.

How should I store an oud fragrance in India?

In its box, in a cupboard, away from windows and out of the bathroom — the three places most Indian homes get wrong. Heat and UV degrade the oils and bathroom humidity swings accelerate it. Expect a visibly worse second year from any bottle kept in direct light.

How this article was made. Note lists were taken from each brand's own published product page, never from a reseller's summary. Prices were checked in August 2026 at Indian retailers and are subject to change. Claude, an AI assistant, was used to help structure and draft this article; the comparison method, the scoring, the note verification and the conclusions are Suraj Verma's, and every factual claim was checked against a primary source before publication. Sense Perfume sells one of the fragrances compared here, which is disclosed above and reflected in the finding that our bottle placed third on accuracy.
